Core Ideology : It’s a Big Deal

Originally posted Strategy Stream 8/25/11

Within each of us is the ability to influence and make the world a better place.

Core Ideology typically means the Mission, Vision, & Values of a business entity.  The ideology then acts as a communication to stakeholders, from employees to investors, about what the company will always hold to –the guideposts from which to act.

The Mission, Vision & Values of an entity can be created by a solo-prenuer and then shared with others as his / her empire grows, or the ideology can be created by partners, board of directors and / or a mixture of who the business entity representatives are at this crucial setting down of the declaration of who the company is.

An influential study by Collins & Porras resulting in the book Built to Last written in 1994, makes the case that companies that go on beyond the founders have done so by standing by the initial core ideology.

It is noteworthy that in the majority of these company’s statements about ideology, there is a common thread of inspirational loftiness and intentional well-meaning.

There is a fundamental ideal or “knowing” of an ability to influence, adjust and make the world a better place.

At the core or essence of each of us is this knowing.  There is that center, that divine spark that has access to the infinite and the ability to master the material.

It is this essence, coupled with a business core ideology, that not only will drive your business to wild, fulfilling success,

the combo contains the unique ability to be a powerful Source of Good; championing a philosophy that positively influences.

Shift Your Business Perspective

What if your business could create happiness, love, and purpose with the same agility and certainty that it creates expanding profits, new customers, and new innovations? It’s a question that isn’t often asked in business, because intangible qualities like love aren’t easily measurable (and measures are the language of business). Most people don’t believe the tangible, everyday needs of business coexist with the intangible.

Oh, but they do.

The truth is just because the current language of business does not acknowledge intangibles, doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

Your business is an embodiment of who you are and what you believe – every time you expand your business, you also expand the knowledge and empowerment of yourself. When you are fundamentally coming from a place of love and purpose, you automatically are shifting your perspective of business.

When your business blends with your own personal philosophy, decisions become easier. You are able to access support not typically considered in traditional business models. Goals are set and achieved without struggle. Your strategies are driven not just by necessity but by passion. Your focus never wanders. You walk forward with absolute certainty that you are supporting the highest good. Not only does your business become a channel for success – it becomes a channel for your expanded inner self and an expanded model of what it means to be doing business in today’s world.

Find your answers, not the “right” answers

I discovered Men with Pens several years ago and have been on-goingly impressed. I am truly excited to now be working with them (look for my new web-design in 2011!) Their renegade style coupled with substance resonates with me.

A recent post on the MWP blog hits the mark regarding the importance of doing your business, your way. Following is a excerpt:

If you want to build and grow and succeed in business….you need to stretch your thoughts and think beyond what you’re being told to do.

Get those textbooks from all the experts, sure – but use them as a springboard, a starting point.

Muse, ponder, ask questions, explore. Contemplate what’s being done and what could be done differently, or better. Think about what works for other businesses and compare that to what might work (or won’t fit) for yours.

Don’t assume the experts have all the perfect answers and template instructions to success – they only have the perfect answer of what’s worked for their business. You can replicate some of what they’ve done, sure, and you’ll achieve a certain measure of success, yes.

But imagine what might happen if you went beyond what they did.

Find your answers – not the “right” answers.

Poke at the “what ifs” and explore calculated risks. Try out new ways of pulling in clients or getting raves that no one has done before. Be untrendy and reject what’s cool. Look instead for what’s smart or efficient or effective. Chase money and results, and leave extra work and expenses in the dust.

If you want to succeed, you have to question the “rules” and the “musts” that other people tell you. You need to improve on textbook methods and rote strategies to reach even better results. MWP Post “Are You Barely Passing with Your Business Philosophy?

Interweaving Creative Force, Action & Attention

Fundamentally, planning is about creating the steps between a current situation and a chosen future. To paraphrase Julia Cameron, who so brilliantly addresses our creative urge in The Artist’s Way …we are compelled because we are ourselves creations; infused with an indwelling creative force. Creative energy is a gift – we are meant to design new creations as a gift back. Refusal to do so is counter to our true nature.

We intuitively know how to form creative energy into a structure that has the potential to attract what we need and desire. Steps are taken; energy turns into form i.e. a spider spins a web, an entrepreneur writes a business plan. Often, frustration occurs when as soon as the structure is designed, we continue to expect specific linear results (hello ego!) and become lost and identified with goals and the structure itself. How can we relax when our structure demands that there are customers to capture, products to be sold, and bills to be paid?

One option is to go after our targets no matter what – stomping over competitors and employees, short-changing or deceiving customers, destroying the planet and ignoring our values. Another option is to recognize and get over the fact that after we plan what we want, the specific linear results from specific actions phase is over.  Now we can RELAX, pay attention, and know that all good things will come.

Evolving business concepts proactively interweave creative force, action & attention. When we design frameworks, it is natural that not only will some success show up, but external resistance and internal doubt will also arise. Once the structure is intact, it is imperative to to be attentive, enthralled, fascinated, and non-judgmental about EVERYTHING that shows up in our web. We must then be willing to intervene if necessary, let go and modify external actions with the feedback we have received from the universe / environment. We also must be willing to acknowledge and clean-up, to the best of our ability, fear and doubt that may arise within ourselves and our team. Planning and letting go is the equivalent of ego and sacred attention working together- ensuring honorable, joyful, and sustainable bottom-lines.

Make Love to the World with your Strategy

Originally uploaded by ~Mina~

When you speak, plan, and act your business into being you are accessing your highest creative self and then yoking it into reality. Your heart or love center is where it comes together. It could be said that the vision you have of your business comes from a divine source, then you, as an instrument of source, create into the field of business. When you create into the field of business you are in a matrix where lots of people before you, now, and in the future will be creating and playing. Your strategy sets your boundaries of the field and helps you to blissfully play and not get caught within rules and consciousness that are not useful to you. The way to do this is to design your strategy (or plan) from a framework of making love to the world.

Making love to the world in this context is about making love from your heart center, while accessing sexual energy.  Sexual (love) energy is the primal and creative energy of the universe. All things that are alive come from sexual energy. In animals and other life forms, sexual energy expresses itself as biological creativity. All life, all expression, all flowering is basically sex energy. In any situation where we feel attraction, arousal, awakening, alertness, passion, interest, inspiration, excitement, creativity or enthusiasm, in each of these situations, sexual energy is at work.

Whenever we feel these states of awareness, we put it in our attention to create our strategy. It is this sexual energy source, that we then yoke into experience with business transactions and keep alive in our awareness with strategy implementation. This is the act of creating a friendship (or union) with vibrant energy and making love to the world with it; thus elevating the stream of life and the matrix of business to new heights.

Within the matrix of business there are a few general rules to adhere to and play by –anything beyond these general rules have been created by others.  Unless you design your own rules and measures of success, you will be doomed to play by the rules and measures of others. Bliss, carefreeness and playfulness are the essence of sexual energy in its most refined state –maintaining this essence is the number one rule when love is the bottom-line.

Patience Pays

Originally uploaded by jaboopee

Patience pays, wait, let the hand of God work for you, and all good things will reach you ~Yogi Bhajan

Fundamentally, planning is about creating the steps between a current situation and a chosen future.  Steps are taken –containers / structures are created i.e. a spider spins a web, an entrepreneur writes a business plan.  Often, frustration occurs when as soon as the structure is designed, we continue to expect specific linear results and become lost and identified with goals and the container itself. How can we relax when our structure demands that there are customers to capture, products to be sold, and bills to be paid?

One option is to be patient, trust ourselves, and relax anyway. When we are patient, we can pay deep attention, remember who we are, adjust accordingly, and allow all good things to reach us.

On a recent trip to Bastrop State Park near Austin, my husband and I stayed in a cabin in the woods. On the back porch was a picnic table set in tight quarters on cement with waist high stone walls. Four mornings in a row I walked thru the area to do my yoga by the water. Every morning there was a spider web spun from the same side of the bench to the same stone wall. Every morning I walked on the other side of the bench, so a not to disturb the web. When I was done with yoga, the web was gone. The spider seemingly made adjustment for visitors! (OK, maybe it just closed down shop at daybreak). I imagined her setting up shop sometime in the middle of the night, patiently waiting to receive – basking in the moonlight -never expending an ounce of energy more then she needed to, including any mind games about why she has to deal with people in the morning.

Evolving business practices proactively interweave attention, action, and adjustment.  Patience is a practice of deep attention and is access to balancing allowing and receiving. A practice that pays to the bottom-line and beyond.

10 Principles for Shifting Business-as-Usual

On the world stage, we are going through a collective healing process ~ a genuine death/rebirth awakening experience.  Our underlying institutions and financial structures that help to keep us asleep are breaking down and coming apart.  We are shaking off the collective madness that it takes to destroy our environment.  The false, illusory separate self, which experiences ourselves as alien from one another, is dying.  The fundamental framework by which we relate to each other and the world is being recreated. We are awakening to our deep interconnection and interdependence with each other and all living things.

Business is a far-reaching, powerful vehicle through which to apply conscious practices based on basic tenants that we are all connected and that our well-being is the well-being of all.  The following Ten Principles applied to the creation, maintenance, and evolution of a business entity assist in the conscious awakening and rebirth of “business-as-usual” and shift attention to love as the ultimate bottom line:

Love is the Bottom-Line Principles

1.   Business is a vehicle thru which to manifest our creative dreams.

2.   We are ourselves creations.  And we, in turn, are meant to design new creations.

3.   Our creative dreams and yearnings come from a divine source.  As we move towards our dreams we move towards our divinity.

4.   The ability to create is a gift to us.  Using our ability is our gift back.

5.   As we open our creative channel, many gentle but powerful changes are to be expected.

6.   It is safe to open ourselves up and give attention to greater creations and possibilities.

7.   As we open ourselves, we are present to deep interconnection and interdependence with each other and all living things.

8.   We understand that our well-being is the well-being and joy of everyone.

9.   Actions to be taken and transactions to be made are by-products of our focus on joy and sacred connection.

10. Our day-to-day experience of business is the experience of the ecstasy of love.
