What is a Vision Statement?

Originally uploaded by Dan Anderson

Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “I have a dream,” and what followed was a vision that changed a nation. That famous speech is a dramatic example of the power that can be generated by a person who communicates a compelling vision of the future.

Management author Tom Peters identified a clear vision of the desired future state of the organization as an essential component of high performance. If a strategic plan is the “blueprint” for an organization’s work, then the vision is the “artist’s rendering” of the achievement of that plan. It is a description in words that conjures up a similar picture for each member of the company of the destination of the company’s work together. There is one universal rule of planning: You will never be greater than the vision that guides you. No Olympic athlete ever got to the Olympics by mistake; a compelling vision of his or her stellar performance inevitably guides all the sweat and tears for many years. The vision statement should require the organization’s members to stretch their expectations, aspirations, and performance. Without that powerful, attractive, valuable vision, why bother?

How a Vision is Used

John Bryson, the author of Strategic Planning for Public and Nonprofit Organizations, states that typically, a vision is “more important as a guide to implementing strategy than it is to formulating it.” This is because the development of strategy is driven by what you are trying to accomplish, your organization’s purposes. A mission statement answers the questions: Why does our organization exist? What business are we in? What values will guide us? A vision, however, is more encompassing. It answers the question, “What will success look like?” It is the pursuit of this image of success that really motivates people to work together.

A vision statement should be realistic and credible, well articulated and easily understood, appropriate, ambitious, and responsive to change. It should orient the company’s energies and serve as a guide to action. It should be consistent with the organization’s values. In short, a vision should challenge and inspire the company to achieve its mission.  Reprinted: Alliance for Management

The Magical Forest ~ Cindy

Cindy and I did a Beautiful Walk Session connecting Spring Texas and The Woodlands Texas.  Post walk, Moor Mapping is used to anchor in the energy shift(s) frequently experienced during a walk.  Moor Mapping is literally “homework” involving creating something in your home / material environment that solidifies your walk insights.  Cindy chose to write a heroic story…

thank you Cindy for sharing it with us!

Look for Cindy’s book, soon to be published “Magical BEings on a Magical Planet.”

I chose a very magical place for my Beautiful Walk.  It was in what I call the Magical Forest, at the spot that I experience Merlin and all of the magical fairies.  As I rounded a bend I had not turned before, I noticed many alcoholic bottles of all colors hung from a small tree that had fallen over the creek bed in which I was walking.  At first, I felt that this magical space had been intruded upon.  Then I noticed how beautiful all the different colors were all swinging in the wind on this fallen tree.  Then I surmised that the fairies had taken all the different colored glass from these bottles and created what really looked like a very large and beautiful wind chime (that, or these fairies were heavy drinkers!) Then Brenda guided me to a space in which I could experience the Sun in all its radiance.  Since I was in the bottom of a tree-lined creek bed, there were spaces that were sunlit and spaces that were in the shade.  It was quite exquisite to both experience as well as describe the experience in detail.

On the next segment Brenda asked me to describe my dream.  I talked nonstop about Magical BEings on a Magical Planet. Almost as if I was calling my dream in, in this Magical Spot.  I was so focused that I forgot to walk, so Brenda walked for me. Then as we began to wrap up, I noticed that two movies that I had recently seen came up for me.  One I called the “nightmare” in which a young woman reporter goes to prison for protecting her Source.  The movie was called “Nothing But the Truth”.  And then, the next movie, “Dreamer”.  I experienced very clearly that I had moved from the “nightmare”, where Truth has not been honored and even to uphold Truth has meant persecution.  TO — Dreaming in the New Dream of Magical Beings on a Magical Planet.  I felt a huge completion and a new beginning all at the same time.  Very amazing journey and one that was very important for me to experience and acknowledge.  Thank you Brenda!

Earth Angel ~ Charlotte

Charlotte and I did a Beautiful Walk Session connecting Kingwood Texas and Durango Colorado.  Post walk, Moor Mapping is used to anchor in the energy shift(s) frequently experienced during a walk.  Moor Mapping is literally “homework” involving creating something in your home / material environment that solidifies your walk insights.  Charlotte chose to write a heroic story…thank you Charlotte for sharing it with us!

Check out Charlotte’s resort Lotus Oasis.

Once upon a time there was an Earth Princess (known by many as an Earth Angel) whose gift to humanity was serving as a vibrational catalyst. The Earth Angel’s interactions with human beings and the gifts that she shared helped increase each being’s vibrations.  In this way, the beings were given the opportunity to shift to a higher frequency.  The Earth Angel could see that the shift happened through her gift, as well as other transformational experiences with other Earth Angels.  Providing a Sanctuary for the beings, that connected many gifted Earth Angel’s, would serve as the fulfillment of the Earth Princess’s job and destiny.

Throughout her current life time, the Earth Angel went through many challenges that helped her re-affirm her purpose.  Some of the challenges came through the earth’s own personality traits that were known as ‘EMOTIONS.’ Somehow, each being on earth was infiltrated with them and they only came into play when the beings were not in their heart’s center.  The Earth Angel was subject to these EMOTIONS as well since she had agreed to interact with human beings without separation.

One day an Earth Prince (known by the Earth Princess as an Earth Angel) came into her life and agreed to help her fulfill her mission.  The Princess and Prince had to work doubly hard to erase separation between them and expel any EMOTIONS that were not in their heart’s center. Often, ‘Doubt’ was what they had to face even though they knew each of their gifts and talents.

The Princess was especially knew the Earth Power’s when dealing with emotion and she often had to tune into the Earth when she struggled with living on it’s surface.  She knew being in nature was a very important remedy for battling unwanted emotions.  And so, the Princess set out on A Beautiful Walk.  As the Princess worked through her doubts and released them to her special ‘peps’ she was able to see more clearly.  In her clear vision she was totally supported by countless other beings that came in all shapes and forms.  The beings were there, just like the Prince, to see the completion of the Princess’s life’s purpose.  They helped her in every way necessary to make sure all her needs were met.  She understood that both she and the Prince were totally supported.

She was reminded that this was not only her dream fulfillment, but that of many.  These helping beings and other Earth Angels became the crusaders for they knew that if their actions were for the good of others it would also serve them. They flocked from all directions to be of service and to fulfill their destiny……and the sanctuary of transformation was placed solidly upon the Earth. The Sanctuary was named Lotus Oasis to symbolize the determination of life despite all adversities (Lotus) and to symbolize the place that brings opportunities for optimal wellness in body, mind and spirit (Oasis).

So through the experiences of her own life lessons the Princess became aware and experienced the necessity of the integration of all aspects of her being – the union of body, mind and spirit.  Because the Princess understood and had experienced the importance of heart centered intention, Lotus Oasis emanated only love and compassion to all who stepped into her little paradise. Lotus Oasis indeed, flourished to became one of the most sought after sanctuaries for transformational experiences…..and the beings, Earth Angels, Prince and Princess were……..satisfied. ~ Charlotte
