The Only Obligation ~ Rumi

Into the meadow

Originally uploaded by Allard One

Today a new madness
is trying to set us free,
tearing open our sacks.

Some nameless Bedouin
has bought Joseph again
for eighteen coins.

A narcissus sprouts through the ground.
Our souls, having pastured all night
on jasmine, leap up for the dawn.

The world is new, and you
have been chosen to say this poem,
because you are the one with the love bites on you.

Your love has brought us to this silence,
where the only obligation
is to walk slowly through a meadow
and look.

Rip-it-to-Shreds

Paper in Peril ll

The poem “Tired of Speaking Sweetly” by Hafiz inspired me to look deeper into how important it is for entrepreneurs and business owners to examine and rip to shreds any erroneous notions of truth that may have crept into their business.  Business can and will take on a life of it’s own and begin to run us –we may, for example, start to live by the measures of others or shoot for goals and targets without examining unexpected collateral damage. We may have evolved consciously, but our old models and beliefs, unchecked, can hold us in a stagnant default pattern.

One of the directives contained in Love’s Guide to Business methodology is “Break Down Illusion/Delusion” ~ the directives are like stages, yet they must be revisited on an ongoing basis. Breaking down illusion/delusion involves uncovering ourselves long enough to see where habit and protection are smothering business creation.  Taking the time to re-examine such things as objectives, motivations, and unexpected impacts (good and bad) keeps an enterprise alive, vital and PASSIONATE.

Once in a while, drag yourself around by the hair and give yourself a good talking to –hold yourself upside down and shake all the nonsense out.  Remember that creation and letting go serve the same end -in this case, the unfolding of powerful conscious business.

Tired of Speaking Sweetly ~ Hafiz

Love wants to reach out and manhandle us,
Break all our teacup talk of God.

If you had the courage and
Could give the Beloved His choice, some nights,
He would just drag you around the room
By your hair,
Ripping from your grip all those toys in the world
That bring you no joy.

Love sometimes gets tired of speaking sweetly
And wants to rip to shreds
All your erroneous notions of truth

That make you fight within yourself, dear one,
And with others,

Causing the world to weep
On too many fine days.

God wants to manhandle us,
Lock us inside of a tiny room with Himself
And practice His dropkick.

The Beloved sometimes wants
To do us a great favor:

Hold us upside down
And shake all the nonsense out.

But when we hear
He is in such a “playful drunken mood”

Most everyone I know
Quickly packs their bags and hightails it
Out of town.

Everywhere Is Falling Everywhere ~ Rumi

flower and drop

Last night the moon came dropping its clothes in the street.

I took it as a sign to start singing,

falling up into the bowl of sky.

The bowl breaks. Everywhere is falling everywhere.

Nothing else to do.

Here’s the new rule: break the wineglass,

and fall toward the glassblower’s breath.

Shaman Media Revolution

“The lamps are different, but the light is the same.” ~Rumi

A great blog post by Rick DiBiaso (formally the Affluent Artist) on the book Socialnomics, by Eric Qualman inspired me to consider social media as a strong thread that is weaving Business & Spirituality together.

Did you know that the Social Media Revolution is the largest revolution since the Industrial Revolution?  The democratization of media led by blogs, Facebook, and Twitter has leveled and expanded the marketplace playing field.  Big advertising budgets no longer rule the world.  Real people, connected across the globe as never before, control the conversation in real time.

From a Shaman’s point of view, being real (authentic, unveiled) and connected are fundamental spiritual practices. Shamans show us that what we experience as our separate self is illusionary – they teach us to give birth to a truer sense of who we are and to recognize our connection to all things.  The current media revolution is all about experiencing connectivity and demonstrating authenticity.

Referring back to Rick DiBiasio‘s post, the main message I got is that if you are trying to build a business, any business – forget Email blasts, forget web sites, forget banner ads – you don’t need an ad campaign.  You not only can, but must, use social media to find your customers and give them what they want  ——- AFTER they get to know you through social media — THEN pay really close attention to how you treat them.

Being real and authentically connected matters – social media forces us to practice being in the NOW and to profoundly pay attention.  Being cognizant of the power of social media to make or break you in real time should be an ongoing practice – a dissatisfied customer can negatively saturate your market fast —–on the flip-side well-networked “fans” can exponentially increase sales. The more we understand our connection to all things (our authentic selves, to each other, to nature) and how our actions immediately generate impact, the truer and brighter we will shine in the marketplace.

Here is an entertaining video on the Social Media Revolution~ the facts may astound you:

Asleep and Listening ~ Rumi

Day before yesterday,Unknown
fire whispered to the fragrant smoke,

Aloes wood loves me,
because I know how to untie it
and let it loose.

This burning must occur,
or nothing will happen.

Sperm cell disappears into egg.
Then a new beauty appears.

Bread and broth must dissolve
in the stomach before energy comes.
Raw ore gets refined into coins.

It is necessary for you
to experience nonbeing.

Love takes you toward that.
Asleep beside the splashing water,
let it say secrets unto you.

Be asleep and a pure listening
at the same time.
